چکیده
Received September 15, 2000 Abstract Haemolytic uraemic syndrome is an unusual and serious complication of pneumococcal sepsis. We reported a boy presenting with pneumococcal sepsis who subsequently developed haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. Washed red cell products, platelet concentrates and renal replacement therapy had been instituted in this patient. The boy recovered well and needed periodic evaluation of long term renal outcome.

Pneumococcal-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome (pHUS) is a rare but severe complication of invasive Streptococcus pneumoniae infection. We report the case of a 12-year-old female with steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome treated with adrenocorticotrophic hormone (H.P. Acthar(®) Gel), who developed pneumococcal pneumonia and subsequent pHUS. While nephrotic syndrome is a well-known risk facto...

Thrombotic microangiopathies are disorders resulting from platelet thromboses forming in the microvasculature with resultant schistocyte forms. Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a microangiopathic hemolytic anemia often complicated by acute renal failure in children. HUS is typically caused by bacterial infection, most commonly enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli. Neuraminidase-producing organi...
